The Significance
1. The
trumpet is used to announce a message or news.
2.
It is used to inform
the general public.
3.
It is used to warn people before it is too late.
4.
It is used to rebuke
those involved in doing something bad to repent.
5.
It is used to proclaim.
6.
It is used to spread
news or message.
7.
It is used to celebrate
a great feast of God.
8.
It is used to give
resounding testimony.
9.
It is used to honour and glorify God.
10.
It is used to recognize
and acknowledge the mighty God of Israel.
11.
It is used to alert
people and thereby make them ready for action. The action may be gathering,
meeting, procession, worship, war, etc
12. It signifies glory, honour, majesty, power and
might, which belong to God.
13. It is the symbol of end time.
14. It is the symbol of end time messages and warnings.
15. It is a reminder to the people of God to return to
the ways of eternal life.
16. It indicates the time for God’s festivals and
appointed times.
17. It signifies and heralds the presence of God.
In the third month after the children of Israel had gone out of the land of
Egypt, on the same day, they came to the Wilderness of Sinai. 2 For they had
departed from Rephidim, had come to the Wilderness of
Sinai, and camped in the wilderness. So Israel camped there before the
mountain.
And Moses went up to God, and the Lord called to him from the mountain, saying,
"Thus you shall say to the house of Jacob, and tell the children of
Israel: 4'You have seen what I did to the Egyptians, and how I bore you on
eagles' wings and brought you to Myself. 5 Now therefore, if you will indeed
obey My voice and keep My covenant, then you shall be a special treasure to Me
above all people; for all the earth is Mine. 6 And you shall be to Me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.' These are the
words which you shall speak to the children of Israel."
So Moses came and called for the elders of the people, and laid before them all
these words which the Lord commanded him. 8 Then all the people answered
together and said, "All that the Lord has spoken we will do." So
Moses brought back the words of the people to the Lord. 9 And the Lord said to
Moses, "Behold, I come to you in the thick cloud, that the people may hear
when I speak with you, and believe you forever."
So Moses told the words of the people to the Lord.
10 Then the Lord said to Moses, "Go to the people and consecrate them
today and tomorrow, and let them wash their clothes. 11 And let them be ready
for the third day. For on the third day the Lord will come down upon Mount
Sinai in the sight of all the people. 12 You shall set bounds for the people
all around, saying, 'Take heed to yourselves that you do not go up to the
mountain or touch its base. Whoever touches the mountain shall surely be put to
death. 13 Not a hand shall touch him, but he shall surely be stoned or shot
with an arrow; whether man or beast, he shall not live.' When the trumpet
sounds long, they shall come near the mountain."
14 So Moses went down from the mountain to the people
and sanctified the people, and they washed their clothes. 15 And he said to the
people, "Be ready for the third day; do not come near your wives."
Then it came to pass on the third day, in the morning, that there were thunderings and lightnings, and a
thick cloud on the mountain; and the sound of the trumpet was very loud, so
that all the people who were in the camp trembled. 17 And Moses brought the
people out of the camp to meet with God, and they stood at the foot of the
mountain. 18 Now Mount Sinai was completely in smoke, because the Lord
descended upon it in fire. Its smoke ascended like the smoke of a furnace, and
the whole mountain quaked greatly. 19 And when the blast of the trumpet sounded
long and became louder and louder, Moses spoke, and God answered him by voice.
20 Then the Lord came down upon Mount Sinai, on the top of the mountain. And
the Lord called Moses to the top of the mountain, and Moses went up. Exodus
19:1-20
18. It signifies and heralds great events.
And
Joshua rose early in the morning, and the priests took up the ark of the Lord.
13 Then seven priests bearing seven trumpets of rams' horns before the ark of
the Lord went on continually and blew with the trumpets. And the armed men went
before them. But the rear guard came after the ark of the Lord, while the
priests continued blowing the trumpets. 14 And the second day they marched
around the city once and returned to the camp. So they did six days. Joshua
6:12-14
But it came to pass on the seventh day that they rose early, about the dawning
of the day, and marched around the city seven times in the same manner. On that
day only they marched around the city seven times. 16 And the seventh time it
happened, when the priests blew the trumpets, that
Joshua said to the people: "Shout, for the Lord has given you the city! 17
Now the city shall be doomed by the Lord to destruction, it and all who are in
it. Only Rahab the harlot shall live, she and all who
are with her in the house, because she hid the messengers that we sent. 18 And
you, by all means abstain from the accursed things, lest you become accursed
when you take of the accursed things, and make the camp of Israel a curse, and
trouble it. 19 But all the silver and gold, and vessels of bronze and iron, are
consecrated to the Lord; they shall come into the treasury of the Lord."

So the people shouted when the priests blew the
trumpets. And it happened when the people heard the sound of the trumpet, and
the people shouted with a great shout, that the wall fell down flat. Then the
people went up into the city, every man straight before him, and they took the
city. 21 And they utterly destroyed all that was in the city, both man and woman, young and old, ox and sheep and donkey,
with the edge of the sword. Joshua 6:20-21
